Scanning Photos

Scanning Photos

Found a shoebox with a bunch of old photographs in it. The photographs were from a variety of time periods, from baby pictures, to school pictures, and multiple birthdays and Christmases. I thought it would be a good idea to scan all of these and preserve them as digital copies. Some of the photos have aged badly, turning dark red and losing all the blues and greens that were in the original color photos. This is going to be a long term project. The scanner is slow and so am I.

I’m not even sure who a lot of these people are. I will have to ask my folks and other family members for their help with this task that could easily take over my life if I don’t be careful and go over board. I tend to do things like that. But this should be fun and very educational and so many family members will benefit from my work, at least I hope they do.

Best New York Camps for The Up and Coming Summer

Best New York Camps for The Up and Coming Summer

With the thought in mind that many parents have all ready found and registered their children in their favorite camps for the up and coming summer camp season, I was a little gun-shy about looking around. I really hate when I find something that I really like and or am interested in, only to find that it isn’t available for one reason or the other.  But I have to admit that using the Internet makes the whole process a lot easier than the days when I was a kid and my mother was looking for a place to send me to for a couple of weeks during the summer months. She was a working mother and couldn’t afford to pay for day-care or take the whole summer off, so summer camp(s) were a big deal for all of us.

I have found some really inspiring Best New York Camps for summer excitement for my sister to take a look at for her tween daughter that really needs a good quality camp to keep her interested and keep her attention at weeks on end. Bless her heart, if my sister doesn’t keep on her almost 24/7 this tween will get into trouble. She is just like her mother and I’ve been done that road before. It was a very bumpy road, I can tell you that!

Pony Treasure

Pony Treasure

It was interesting reading about how the National Postal Museum is now displaying a treasure from long ago. It’s an envelope that was found in a saddlebag that was carried by a Pony Express rider. The riders name is unknown and the bag spent two years in the desert before being recovered and its contents delivered.

The envelope is owned by William H. Gross. He donated enough funds to have a 12,000 square foot gallery built at the museum. The envelope is the centerpiece of the new display. It is Pony Express history at its best and is a rare piece of Americana.

I bank at Wells Fargo, so every time I see my bank I am reminded that the Pony Express was an important piece of history, since their logo is a stage couch and I have always been fascinated with the Pony Express. One day I would really love to visit this museum and find out even more about the Pony Express.

White Bark Pine

White Bark Pine

White bark pine trees play an important role in a bear’s life. The nuts contained within their cones are packed with protein and provide the bears with a few extra pounds before the winter arrives. One problem the bears are having is that beetles are destroying the cones as fast as the trees drop them.

The scarcity of the cones has forced the bears to look elsewhere for food. This has brought them in increasing contact with humans. Bear attacks are on the rise and experts believe there will be more bear attacks than ever this year. Park rangers are trying to ensure the safety of campers and hikers by spreading the word. Beware of bears when out in the woods.

Request For a Tube Screamer For Graduation

Request For a Tube Screamer For Graduation
Screaming Tube

Tube Screamer

The gifts that kids want these days are so different from the various gifts that were customary given back when I was growing up. I have received word that my very musically talented niece wants a tube screamer for one of her graduation presents. She will be graduating from high school the first part of this up and coming June and will be off and running to college in no time flat. So I really want to get her something off of her wish list and was pleased to find that these types of musical equipment isn’t as expensive as I first thought it would be.

I still would like to go in halves with another relative to make my monthly budget end up in such dire needs at the end of the month. So I have sent out an email to a few select family members asking for their input and their opinion. We still have a couple of months but I don’t want to wait until the last-minute. Way too stressful for this ol’ gal. Honestly I’m still trying to recover from the mad last-minute rush from back just a few months ago at Christmas.
