Enjoyed an Alto Sax Last Night

Enjoyed an Alto Sax Last Night

Tonight’s American Idol was awesome, they are picking off the people the people who I have enjoyed all season, but I knew that they were going to end up going home sooner or later. My BFF and I both watch American Idol and Dancing With The Stars and text each other on average 65 times throughout each episode with comments and remarks, we have a blast. Since she moved 7 hours away we do what we can to continue to spend quality time watching our favorite TV shows together, when we can.

I love watching the musicians that are playing in the background on both shows. Last night we got to enjoy a nice alto sax while one male contestant sang his farewell song before heading back home due to low numbers. I really think that the singers that play a musical instrument have so much more to offer than the ones that are limited to their vocals, as great and powerful as they are mind you. It’s just a personal opinion and observation that my BFF doesn’t necessarily agree with LOL! Actually my favorite doesn’t play an instrument, or at least she hasn’t played or mentioned one yet. We don’t have long to go before American Idol will be nothing but a memory but at least we will still have DWTS for a few months.

Very Useful Info at Shopwiki

Very Useful Info at Shopwiki

I’ve heard of a great way to find items on the Internet other than using the famous Google search. Shopwiki.com has revolutionized shopping online by allowing you to find anything that you need with every store, not just the ones that have paid for placement, which is a great feature to enjoy and utilize for online purchases.  I was interested to see what I could find concerning the Wii gaming system that is so popular these days turned to Shopwiki.com to see what would turn up there. I have been thinking that I would purchase one in the near future since it incorporates exercise into the games as well, which is a big advantage, rather than just sitting on front of a screen pushing buttons for hours on end for pleasure.

I found a great Nintendo Wii buying guide there that provided me with a lot of useful information concerning the game system, their Wii games and all the available Wii accessories as well and several other useful links that I ventured into last night concerning all types of video and games products that are now available.  I still haven’t received my tax refund and have many ideas on how to spend the money expected. I think that a Wii gaming system might be a real good idea, something fun and useful, it’s all good!

Musical Memories

Musical Memories

I wonder how many families in America actually celebrate the Fourth of July with a picnic and fireworks? That’s been the tradition in my home as far back as I can remember. My folks used to take us to the community park for a full day of family activities, with a parade, pie eating contest, arcade games and concerts on an outdoor stage – followed by a half hour show of fireworks as it got dark. Of course, my granddad often performed on stage with the local bands on their request. I was always so proud of him to see him take the stage and play the piano and sing along with whatever music they chose to play. He could wing it if he had never heard the tune before and he was always happiest playing the piano.

Shakey’s used to have pizza parlors all over the country. Where I lived in the Washington DC area there were a couple dozen, back in the 60′s – 80′s. Sometime in the late 1980′s they started closing their restaurants. I don’t know why. They were really popular with families because they had a great variety of pizzas on a buffet and everyone could eat as much as they wanted of their favorite toppings. Plus they had great music entertainment at night, with rag time or Dixie bands playing songs that everyone knew and could sing along. Sometimes my grandfather would play there as a last-minute fill in for some one when they were in need. Entire baseball and softball teams would come in to their closest Shakey’s after a game and eat pizza, drink beer or soda and have a lot of fun. We had our baseball team party at Shakey’s every year. There’s nothing like them around here anymore. Miss them and the great family entertainment.

Always Wanting More. . .

Always Wanting More. . .

When I listen to the radio and hear a good song, it really would be nice if they announced the name of the song or at least the artist. I believe that now a days it just might be asking too much to ask for both pieces of pertinent information to be shared. I swear I remember D.J.s doing that when I was growing up and listening to the local Top 40 radio station for our area. They either told you at the beginning of the song or at the end, usually the end so that you would have to listen to the whole song to get the song’s name and/or artist. I guess it’s just one more thing of the past.

I heard this song well over a month a go while going up a mountain, so it was some pretty crappy reception that made it really hard to hear it very well, but what I heard I really enjoyed. If I didn’t know any better I would have thought that it was a song by Queen, but they haven’t released anything in ages so maybe it was a song off of an album that I just didn’t remember all that well. So I couldn’t wait for the song to be over while I still had some reception in hopes of hearing the who and the what, of course as usual I got squat.

I heard it again last night and remembered enough of one line of the song “and when I looked into my nephew’s eyes” to type into YouTube and I’ll be darned it popped right up. I really love this song and I’m so happy to say that the video is just as awesome, which is unusual these days. It is rare to find a good song that has a good video -  so I’m doubly pleased with this find.

Well I have decided that a taylor big baby guitar would be the perfect acoustic guitar for my nephew to start on. They have them for people who are left-handed, like his is. To tell you the truth I didn’t even know that they made left-handed guitars, but then I never really thought about it and I guess I shouldn’t be so surprised. I’m assuming there are plenty of guitar players that are left-handed. I was hoping to find a used one, but there just weren’t any that I could find that was a better deal than a brand new one.

I know that his parents don’t have the extra money right now to buy him but a couple of small gifts this year. This has been a totally rough year for both his mom and day, who are struggling with employment issues right now. Thank goodness for unemployment but it certainly isn’t enough for what they need and want to run their household. So I don’t mind pitching in and making sure he gets at least one of the things that he really wants for Christmas this year. It’s just too bad I won’t be able to see the expression on his face when he opens the box and sees what it is. I will urge his mom to make sure to get a picture or two to put on Facebook for everyone to enjoy.
