Another failure

May 30th, 2010

The latest attempt to stop the worst oil spill in American history has failed. BP announced that after several days of pumping mud and junk into the well using undersea robots, the attempt has failed. BP is now looking for other ways to plug the leak. We are all hoping it will be done soon.

President Barack Obama admitted that he was saddened that the oil is still flowing. The main problem is that the well is 5,000 feet underwater. This has made it difficult work on and new ideas are being tried. The well has spilled an estimated 40 million gallons of oil into the Gulf of Mexico.

Tea can be healthy

May 19th, 2010

The tea plant’s scientific name is Camellia sinensis. It has certain properties that have become known to many over the ages. The plant can be very beneficial to those with certain cancers. Tea can actually help slow the spread and growth of cancers such as skin, liver, and stomach cancer. It has other helpful qualities as well.

Many believe that tea is good for the teeth. It can kill bacteria’s and increases the acid resistance of enamel. It also contains fluoride that keeps teeth healthy. Tea is also able to help Alzheimer’s disease victims as well as those with poor skin. I am glad that Mother Nature has provided us with this wonderful plant!

Pony Treasure

May 15th, 2010

The National Postal Museum will display a treasure from long ago. It’s an envelope that was found in a saddlebag that was carried by a Pony Express rider. The riders name is unknown and the bag spent two years in the desert before being recovered and its contents delivered.

The envelope is owned by William H. Gross. He donated enough funds to have a 12,000 square foot gallery built at the museum. The envelope will be the centerpiece of the new display. It is Pony Express history at its best and is a rare piece of Americana.

Kentucky Derby

May 2nd, 2010

It was a great race yesterday as Calvin Borel rode Super saver to a 2 1/2 length victory at the 136th running of the Kentucky Derby. After a heavy rain, the track was in a muddy condition as the gates opened and 20 horses took off. The winning time was 2:04.45 which was not bad considering the track condition.

The annual tournament at Churchill Downs went off without any major glitches and was a great show. There was the usual amount of wonderful hats as well as flowers all over the place. It was great to witness this wonderful event and I look forward to the Preakness to see if we have a possible Triple Crown winner.
