Immigrants leaving
A new study found that illegal immigrants coming into the U.S. is on the decline. Most of the immigrants come from Central America, South America, and the Caribbean. Tougher enforcement of the border is playing a part in the decline. Other factors such as the economic downturn are playing a role as well.
Many states have enacted new legislation that makes it harder for illegal aliens to stay in the U.S. the debate over illegal immigration has been going on for years in Washington, and it seems that now the problem is solving itself.

Ever since the giant oil spill by the oil company BP, there has been a debate on the amount of dispersant that was being used. Many have felt that the company relied too heavily on it and that the consequences of using it in such large quantities are unknown. Some members of congress are now taking a closer look at the subject.
One member of congress named Edward Markey from Massachusetts has railed against the practice and wants answers as to why they were allowed to use so much. The company had to get permission from the EPA to do so. I hope the practice of using dispersant will come under greater scrutiny in the future.

For years it seemed that cheap Chinese labor was putting U.S. workers in a bind. Jobs were shipped off to china as their labor force was working for pennies on the dollar. Some recent news is that this may be changing. Chinese workers are no longer happy working for nothing and are demanding higher wages and better working conditions.
Due to the new conditions, some companies are actually considering bringing jobs back to America and other cheaper countries. I am glad that the Chinese workers are getting higher pay and learning about their rights as workers. I hope this trend continues.

On May 18, the sky above Alabama was disturbed by a meteor that blazed through the night sky. Spotted by the cameras at the Marshall Space Flight Center, the rock was estimated to weigh about 60 pounds. NASA is hoping that those in the area will find chunks of the rock and turn them in for study. As for me, I’m just glad it didn’t fall on my head!!

The latest attempt to stop the worst oil spill in American history has failed. BP announced that after several days of pumping mud and junk into the well using undersea robots, the attempt has failed. BP is now looking for other ways to plug the leak. We are all hoping it will be done soon.
President Barack Obama admitted that he was saddened that the oil is still flowing. The main problem is that the well is 5,000 feet underwater. This has made it difficult work on and new ideas are being tried. The well has spilled an estimated 40 million gallons of oil into the Gulf of Mexico.
